The 'ends justify the means' philosophy in high-control groups & spiritual abuse

What does it mean if you, a partner, or a group, believe that the ends always justify the means in a situation?

It means that ANY behaviour, action, abuse, or even crime can be justified as part of a ‘greater mission or purpose’, which is likely incomprehensible to the general (inferior, of course 😉 public.

This philosophy is common in damaging cults, narcissistic individuals or groups, and in personal relationships based on Coercive Control.

And it is incredibly dangerous.

It can sound like:

‘We/this movement have a very important spiritual mission. If you’re here your karma is to be part of it’.

‘Welcome to the erotic revolution/great awakening. It is what the World needs right now. We are very blessed to be here.’

‘Do you want liberation/happiness/love etc? Then follow the guidance, rules and laws of this community. It’ll change your life forever, like it did mine’.

‘Society is a mess. We follow the divine laws here’

‘The laws of society are not relevant to us or to our Divine mission.’ I.e we are literally above the law!

‘The leader knows what he’s doing, he’s enlightened. Even if you don’t understand, or what seems abuse to common people, it’s happening for a reason cos he sees the ultimate truth/has a direct connection with God.’
